Floof Shield
The all-in-one app. One window with Home, Scan, Clean, Update, Apps & Space, Subscriptions and Settings down the side. Floof Shield includes Floof Cleaner and Floof Updater, with a Full Scan button that cleans, updates your apps and checks your protection in one go, and keeps the results on screen until you look at them. Its scan shows how well your PC is protected and where tracking and malware could get in, in plain words, with a Fix button beside anything that needs it. It works with Windows' own protection rather than replacing it, and every change can be undone.
What it checks
- Protection: virus protection, definitions, last scan, firewall, SmartScreen, Windows Update, drive encryption (whether BitLocker is available, on or paused) and memory integrity, plus a one-click virus scan
- Turns on Windows' built-in blocking of adware and junk apps, which ships switched off
- Spyware: known keyloggers and spyware, remote-control tools scammers use, unsigned programs running from user folders or talking to the internet, suspicious scheduled tasks, and Defender exclusions malware hides behind, plus full and restart-time deep scans
- Camera and microphone: which apps used them and when, and anything using them right now
- Windows hardening: Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance left open, the old SMBv1 protocol, the Guest account, weakened permission prompts, AutoPlay, public vs private networks, and Defender's ransomware protection
- Backup and recovery: whether OneDrive, File History or another backup is protecting your files, and System Restore, with a one-click restore point
- Startup programs: who made each one, whether it's signed, and a flag on anything unknown
- Browser extensions in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Firefox that can read every site or didn't come from the store
- Tampering: hosts file redirects, hidden proxies, swapped search engines, forced browser policies and odd DNS
What it can switch off
- Windows' advertising ID and "tailored experiences"
- Start menu, lock screen and Settings ads and suggestions
- App launch tracking, and websites reading your language list
- Optional: Quad9, a free nonprofit DNS that blocks known malware and phishing sites in every app
- Apps and space: every installed app with its size and when you last used it, flags on preinstalled junk, one-click uninstall, and what's filling your drive
- Subscriptions: links to see and cancel subscriptions at Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, PayPal, Meta and Adobe, the paid-plan apps on your PC, and the repeating charges in a bank or card statement you import (read on your PC, never sent anywhere)
- Full Scan on a schedule (weekly or monthly) with a Windows notification of what it did
- Quick tools: a virus scan, fresh virus definitions or a restore point in one click
- Every switch has Undo, and nothing changes until you click
